Against the backdrop of the global advocacy for environmental protection and sustainable development, new energy vehicles are becoming an irresistible trend in the development of the automotive industry.
From a market data perspective, the development momentum is astonishing. In 2024, the combined sales of new energy vehicles such as battery – electric vehicles (BEVs), plug – in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles worldwide reached 16.29 million, with an annual increase of 25%. The China EV100 predicts that the sales volume of the Chinese automotive market in 2025 is expected to be around 32 million. Among them, the sales volume of new energy vehicles, including exports, is expected to reach 16.5 million, with a growth rate close to 30%. Domestic demand is expected to reach 15 million, and the penetration rate is expected to exceed 55%. In just a few years, new energy vehicles have gradually shifted from a “niche choice” in the market to “mainstream consumption”. In 2024, the retail penetration rate of new energy vehicles in China reached 47.6%, marking their formal entry into the mainstream consumer market.
In terms of technological innovation, new energy vehicles are also advancing rapidly. Battery technology is constantly breaking through. As the current mainstream, ternary lithium – ion batteries and lithium – iron – phosphate batteries are continuously optimizing their performance. At the same time, countries around the world are vigorously researching and developing solid – state battery technology. The energy density of CATL’s Kirin Battery 2.0 has reached 350Wh/kg, and the lithium – sulfur battery laboratory results of the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences have even achieved 500Wh/kg. The loading rate of the 800V high – voltage platform exceeded 45% in 2024 (reported in the 2024 annual report of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers), greatly improving the charging speed and further alleviating users’ “range anxiety”. The development of intelligent networking technology has transformed new energy vehicles from mere means of transportation into intelligent mobile terminals. Autopilot technology is constantly evolving, gradually moving from initial assisted driving to highly automated driving and even driverless driving. The intelligent cockpit also pays more attention to the user experience, integrating various advanced technologies such as voice interaction and gesture control, bringing unprecedented convenience and comfort to drivers and passengers.
The industrial pattern of new energy vehicles is also undergoing profound changes. Traditional automakers are accelerating their transformation, investing a large amount of resources in the research, development, and production of new energy vehicles, trying to seize a place in this transformation. New energy vehicle companies represented by Tesla and BYD, relying on their first – mover advantages and continuous innovation, have already established a firm foothold in the market and are constantly expanding their market share. Moreover, in emerging market countries such as Thailand and Indonesia, with the strong promotion of the government, the demand for new energy vehicles is growing rapidly, becoming a new growth point in the global new energy vehicle market.
